The Massachusetts Audubon Society's sprawling acreage in South Wellfleet offers an environmental palette that ranges from dune to marsh to wooded upland. Plus, all the birds and other wildlife you'd expect to go with it. But one of the most paintable scenes I've found there is this tiny building nestled between a sandy foot path from the low bayside dunes and a thriving hardwood hammock. Though, in reality, it probably serves some functional purpose for managing the refuge, I prefer to think it might secretly house a tiny, long-lost family of Cape Cod pioneers.
